A word from your mentor

Introduction

Adelina Nyokong Foundation believes Fourth Industrial Revolution is a game changer that needs every individual, organization, and government to stand together and get involved. We all have a role to play to make sure we provide
a solid foundation for every child regardless of their social standing,
colour, and gender with relevant resources for the future.

What is 4IR?

Fourth Industrial Revolution is a revolution which incorporates technology and science to create a new form of technology for the advancement of life. Let us look at the past industrial revolutions to understand 4IR better.

First Industrial Revolution (1784)

Used stream to harness production e.g Trains - heating water by burning coal to generate stream A change from a handicraft economy to one dominated by machine manufacturing E,g Sewing machine.

Benefits of First industrial revolution

Second Industrial Revolution (1870)

New innovations in petroleum, steel production and electricity. New technologies let to the introduction of public transport and aeroplanes. Eg, Steel replaced iron in the building business (steel was cheaper and much stronger) It made it possible to build rail lines we see today at competitive prices.

Benefits of second industrial revolution

Third Industrial revolution (1969)

The rise of electronics, telecommunications, and computers.

Benefits of Third industrial revolution

4IR Innovative technologies

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Refers to simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think and act like humans. Smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence.

Internet of Things (IoT)

Internet connected devices like cameras, sensors, household appliances, cell phones, smart watches, cars etc

3D Printing

3D Printing or addictive manufacturing is a process by which physical objects are created by depositing materials in layers based on a digital model. An object is created by laying down numerous layers of materials until the object is created. 3D Printing process requires software, hardware, and materials to work together

Drones

These crafts can carry out an impressive range of tasks, ranging from military operations to package delivery. Drones can be as large as an aircraft or as small as the palm of your hand.

Robotics

Robots are programmable machines which are usually able to carry out a series of actions autonomously, or semi-autonomously.

Blockchain

A blockchain is essentially a digital ledger of transactions that is duplicated and distributed across the entire network of computer systems on the blockchain. Includes a system that makes it difficult or impossible to change, hack, or cheat the system.

South African Government - 4IR

The future of South Africa’s journey towards the 4IR is important since Digital technologies have the potential to vastly improve sectors including education, jobs of the future and the economy on a massive scale.

Data Science

Data scientists need to be curious and result-oriented, with exceptional industry-specific knowledge tech giants also have the need for data professionals who are skilled in organizing and analyzing massive amounts of data

Soft Skills

Character traits and interpersonal skills that characterize a person's relationships with other people. In the workplace, soft skills are considered to be a complement to hard skills.
